A divided Amenity Authority Committee has agreed to a policy for dogs’ use of Paradise Park Area A.
“In reviewing the new improved site, which includes enhanced landscaping features, irrigation, walking paths, and park and picnic benches, these new areas will require additional opportunities for maintenance, programming and management,” Villages Recreation Director John Rohan said in a memo to the AAC.
Prior to the improvements, dog owners were allowed to use the site, provided the dog owners obeyed Lady Lake’s leash law.
Rohan noted that dog owners and non-dog owners have inquired about what the usage will be in the renovated park once it opens next month.
He suggested four options to the AAC:
• Prohibit pets in Paradise Park A.
• Dogs permitted on leash in Paradise Park A.
• Dogs permitted in designated areas in Paradise Park A. (Mainly away from picnic areas.)
• Dogs permitted on leash in Paradise Park A for a six-month review period.
AAC members Ann Forrster, Jo Weber and Rich Lambrecht voted in favor of Option 4 which had been recommended by district staff. Chairman John Wilcox and member Carl Bell voted against Option 4, saying they had favored Option 2.
