No arrests from Saturday incident at Market Square

No arrests resulted from an incident Saturday night at City Fire in Lake Sumter Landing.

There had been a complaint of a battery, and it apparently involved an intoxicated person and friend. Those people were removed from the premises, said Lt. Bobby Caruthers of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

He confirmed a heavier than usual law enforcement presence that night at Market Square.

He said it is part of keeping people safe.

Many witnesses in that area took note of the disturbance.

Pat Paciolla of the Village of Belle Aire said her children and grandchildren had just seen “The Hobbit” at Old Mill Playhouse and came upon all of the law enforcement activity upon leaving the movie theater.

“It’s concerning when you hear things like that,” she said.
