Former Villager Bob Burris penned this poem about roundabouts in The Villages.
THE CIRCLE OF FEAR
There are cars ahead of me
and some coming from the rear.
I cautiously approach
the circle of fear.
Most cars are slowing
as we are getting near.
But some seem to race
to the circle of fear.
As I wait in line,
for the traffic to clear,
a car passes on the left
into the circle of fear.
Some drivers are talking,
with a cell phone to their ear.
Are they wanting directions
for the circle of fear?
Stay out of the inside lane
this busy time of the year
from it, it’s dangerous to exit
the circle of fear.
People have given opinions
that some don’t want to hear.
They have their very own way of driving,
in the circle of fear.
It is easy in Alaska, England
and other places we hear.
But how do we drive in The Villages,
in the circle of fear?
Many drivers are workers
and it seems to appear,
that some have their own rules,
in the circle of fear
If only drivers would signal
and make their intentions clear,
it would be much safer
in the circle of fear.
Be alert, drive defensively
and let out a cheer
when you make it safely through
the circle of fear.
Bob Burris lived in Waverly Villas in The Villages from 2001 to 2011.
