37-year-old Belleview woman killed in early morning accident

A 37-year-old Belleview woman was killed in an automobile accident at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday on State Road 35 (Baseline Road) in Marion County.

Cari Ann Laine was traveling southbound in a 2002 Pontiac van on State Road 35, north of Foss Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

James Marshall O’Connell, 51, of Ocala  was traveling northbound on State Road 35, north of Foss Road. Laine’s vehicle left the roadway on the west shoulder of State Road 35. Laine then attempted to correct the error in steering, causing her to oversteer. Her vehicle rotated counterclockwise and crossed into the northbound lane of State Road 35. O’Connell’s vehicle which was traveling northbound did not have time to react due to the close proximity of Laine’s vehicle, the FHP report said.

Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the Laine dead.

O’Connell and and a passenger, 52-year-old Denise O’Connell also of Ocala, were both transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries which were listed as serious, according to the FHP report.
