Capt. Gail Lazenby stepping down Friday from Villages Public Safety

Villages Public Safety Capt. Gail Lazenby, who delayed his original retirement from Feb. 28, will be leaving the department as of 5 p.m. Friday.

Lazenby, a Village of Belle Aire resident, has taught CPR to countless Villagers and has been a champion of placing life-saving automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at pools and neighborhood centers.

In all, Lazenby has spent 46 years in public safety.

Lazenby delayed his retirement after Chief Mike Tucker stepped down.

Lazenby is also a supervisor in Community Development District 3 and an active member of St. Paul Parish in Belleview where he has led an effort to collect toiletry items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes and distribute them via backpacks to children in need.
