Sumter Landing Bicycle Club member Steve Agronick finished on the podium at the recently completed Mountain Bike World Championships in Lillihammer, Norway with a third-place finish.

“This was the hardest event I ever took part in,” commented the veteran racer on his return to the Villages. “In addition to competing against the 11 national champions, there were monster climbs and challenging weather.”

Agronick of the Village of Winifred was the only American to podium in the entire event which Agronick  describes as “first class.”

Agronick also got to be a tourist and visited many of the sites of the 1994 Olympic Games. Agronick describes the area as “beautiful beyond description” and urges Villagers to visit Norway and Lillihammer to see for themselves.

Agronick wants to thank everyone who helped him by contributing to his costs. His internet-based fund raising campaign raised half of his cost of participation.

He says “I tried harder” because of the widespread support he received from Villagers and others.

Agronick is a familiar face at Village Cycles in Spanish Springs where he works.
