Mayor casts lone vote opposing plan for Spanish Springs drive-up bank

Lady Lake Mayor Ruth Kussard cast the lone vote Wednesday against a planned bank drive-through facility in Spanish Springs.

The Villages wants to build a two-lane drive-through for Citizens First Bank at 1105 Caballero Court, behind the bank’s Main Street facility.

A previous plan for a drive-through at the grassy, tree-shaded area, was rejected by the commission last year.

On Wednesday, a conceptual plan for a smaller version of the drive-through was presented.

Three parking places will be lost in the adjacent lot if the drive-through is constructed.

One resident voiced his concern about parking, but a Villages official said parking will not be a problem.

“When people say there is not enough parking in Spanish Springs Town Square, they mean there is not parking 100 feet from the door I want to walk through,” said Marty Dzuro of The Villages. “There is enough parking.”

Three commissioners – Jim Richards, Tony Holden and Dan Vincent -voted in favor of allowing the conceptual plan for the drive-through to move forward. Commissioner Paul Hannan was absent from the meeting.

But Mayor Ruth Kussard stood her ground.

“I have heard from so many residents who are opposed to this,” she said.

Citizens First Bank is planning to close its Avendia Central drive-through facility. A golf cart repair shop will be going into that location.
