A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy was forced to taser a man during an investigation of a domestic battery complaint Sunday night in Wildwood.

The deputy had been called at about 8:30 p.m. to a home on NW 102 Boulevard where 53-year-old James Thomas Wright had allegedly shoved his wife against a wall during a dispute over his “excessive drinking,” the arrest report indicated.

During the course of the investigation, Wright became uncooperative and the deputy had to resort to using his taser, the arrest report said.

A background check revealed that Wright had previously been convicted of battery in 1989 in California.

Wright was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on charges of battery and resisting an officer. He was initially being held without bond.
