U.S. Rep. Rich Nugent was among 19 Republicans who broke ranks this week with GOP leadership to support a resolution that would direct President Obama to remove American troops stationed abroad from fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The breakaway group objects to the absence of a formal Congressional authorization of war.
Nugent, a Republican who represents The Villages, and 18 fellow GOP lawmakers joined 120 Democrats in voting for the measure.
It was ultimately defeated by a coalition of 222 Republicans and 66 Democrats.
