An off-duty law enforcement officer spotted a reckless driver Tuesday evening on County Road 466A, resulting in the arrest of the driver.

The off-duty officer spotted at about 5:30 p.m. a red Chevy pickup with bicycles in the bed. The truck was having trouble maintaining a single lane and hitting the curb. The driver of the truck then stopped at an abandoned house on the north side of CR 466A, west of Pinellas Place.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene and found Jonathan Roy Callahan, 40, of Fruitland Park.

He failed field sobriety exercises. However, a breath sample showed no alcohol content.

A urine sample was collected from Callahan, according to the arrest report. He was charged with driving under the influence and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.

A criminal history check revealed that Callahan had been convicted in 2013 of possession of cocaine.
