On Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Villages Polo Field, the second annual Walk for Autism will be hosted by The Village Angels to raise awareness and funds for those diagnosed with the disorder.

The Village Angels is a support group, headed by Sally Gage. She has a grandson with autism and it has inspired her activism. The group consists of members who have relatives or friends with Autism and gather monthly to share personal stories, listen to guest speakers for updates on progress in research, and reach out to local families with Autistic children.

The committee was established three years ago and has worked hard to maintain its mission through hosting events such as the Annual Wine Bingo Fundraiser, participating in other Autism-awareness activities, providing financial help to fund therapies and research.

Last year, the Walk successfully raised $11,000.00 and garnered approximately 200 attendants. This year, all proceeds will go to Autism Speaks and the Village Angels.

Featured at the event will be a raffle and performance by Ralph DiNome and his daughter Dawn. The Village Cheerleaders, Clown Alley, and The Veterans Memorial Park Honor Guard will be making an appearance as well.

Other sponsors will also be participating: Dunkin Donuts will provide free coffee and donuts, Chik- Fil-A will be offering free gift cards, and Cupcakes for Autism will be handing out free cupcakes.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in attending may pre-register and donate online.
