LGBT activist Nadine Smith to speak at Equality Florida Benefit in The Villages

The Rainbow Family & Friends Club and Equality Florida will be co-sponsoring a benefit on Friday, Oct. 2 at the Lake Miona Recreation Center.

The fundraiser will feature co-founder and CEO of Equality Florida, Nadine Smith, as the guest speaker who will discuss ongoing issues faced by LGBT communities in Florida.

Smith is known for championing LGBT rights, such as gay adoption, and fighting discriminations, based on sexual orientation and gender identity, through Equality Florida.

In 2013, National Women’s Council recognized Smith as recipient of the Florida Most Powerful and Influential Woman Award. The League of Women Voters of Florida also named her “Woman of Distinction” in 2014.

The Rainbow Family & Friends, established in August 2007 by Wendy O’Donnell and Peggy Gravin, has been working with Equality Florida for six years and will use all funds from this event to continue supporting Equality Florida’s mission.

The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and will also have appetizers and beverages provided by John Michael’s Catering and live music performed by Petrina.
