Villages Parrot Heads Club presents checks totaling $3,500 to two local charities

The Villages Parrot Heads Club recently presented checks totaling $3,500 to two local charities.

A $2,500 check was presented to Center Hill Children’s Mission, represented by Director Betty Ann Klein and Treasurer Warren Smith.

Klein described to Parrot Heads attending a Dec. 2 meeting at Palmer Legends Country Club the wonderful results of the tutoring program for the underprivileged children served by the Mission. Teaching the children to read and other life skills has a lasting reward beyond the food and clothing provided to them, she said.

A $1,000 check was presented to the Lone Palm Foundation, a new charity sponsored by the Parrot Heads national organization, Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHIP).The check was accepted by Sue Kermis, a member of the Villages Parrot Heads Club and the regional coordinator for the state of Florida. She explained that the national organization discontinued affiliation with its previous fund-raising group and created the Lone Palm Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to helping members in distress, such as floods, fires, tornados, and medical emergencies.

To date, the Villages club has made the largest donation to this foundation.
