A 63-year-old Village of Lake Deaton man was arrested on a drunk driving charge after a golf cart accident.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies and Villages Public Safety Department responded to the accident at 7:50 p.m. Thursday at Buena Vista Boulevard and Hillsborough Trail. They found Salvatore Carone, who lives on Neighborly Way in the Village of Lake Deaton, behind the wheel of a golf cart that had struck the curb and hit a fence, according to the sheriff’s office.

Carone was medically cleared by EMS, but a deputy suspected he had been drinking. Carone told the deputy he had three drinks at Cody’s. He failed field sobriety exercises and later provided breath samples that registered .132 and .133 blood alcohol content.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
