A 57-year-old Villager, who had been at the wheel of a golf cart when he was arrested in July on a charge of driving under the influence, has been sentenced in the case.

Robert Brian Brunett, who lives at 716 Rose Apple Ave. in the Village of Silver Lake, has a long criminal history, including prior DUI, battery and leaving the scene of an accident.

Last week in Lake County Court, Brunett entered a plea of no contest to his fourth DUI. He will lose his driver’s license for life, serve three years probation and will be under community control for two years.

On July 3, citizens had flagged down Lady Lake police to report an intoxicated driver operating a golf cart at La Grande Boulevard and La Plaza Parkway.

When he was spotted, Brunett attempted to elude police. When he was apprehended, he told police officers that he had been coming from his mother’s house and that he had not been drinking. His license was already revoked.

He refused to submit to a breath test at the time of his arrest.
