A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to five months in jail in connection with a smash-and-grab burglary at a Sprint store in Lady Lake.
Jeffry Devieux of Pine Hills was sentenced this past week in Lake County Court in connection with the Dec. 30 burglary at the Sprint store near Home Depot.
He and two accomplices made off with nearly $5,000 in electronics from the store.
Hours after the burglary, a Tavares police officer, armed with the information from the Lady Lake Police Department, spotted three men committing a pedestrian violation on State Road 500. He was able to send a photograph of the suspects back to the Sprint store manager and it was determined that the clothing the men were wearing matched the clothing of the men captured on video surveillance at the store. A vehicle of one of the suspects was discovered nearby. In the bushes, a backpack containing Sprint phones was found. Other Sprint cell phones and cases were found in the area.
Devieux will receive credit for 113 days already served in jail.
In February, accomplice Gerrode Devon Johnson, 20, of Orlando, was sentenced to two years probation and six months of community control.
A case against alleged accomplice Earl Anthony Mellad, 21, of Orlando, is still pending in Lake County Court.
The three men are suspected to have been involved in similar burglaries in Melbourne, Kissimmee and Sumter County.
