League of Women Voters ready to unveil online Voters Guide 2016

The League of Women Voters of The Villages/Tri-County is preparing to launch a new Voters Guide feature on their website to educate people on the voting process.

Under the “Voter’s Toolkit” on the non-partisan’s group website will be an option for people to visit called “Voters Guide 2016.”

Users will then be directed to a site where they can download voting guides for Lake, Sumter, and Marion counties.

The guides will display information on every candidate running in each of the three counties’ elections.

League of Women Voters’ members Carolyn Van Noy and Kathy Hansen explained that all the candidates will receive a template to answer specific and general questions. Their answers will then be posted verbatim on the guides, along with the candidates’ background information for people to read.

Information and arguments surrounding amendments will also serve to aid voters when they are asked to vote on certain amendments.

The site, created by Char Griffin of the Village of Tamarind Grove, targets not only registered voters, but also non-registered voters.

Hansen’s hope with the website is that non-registered voters who feel like the voting process is overbearing, will receive confidence to participate in the elections after reviewing the site’s tools and resources.

Information available on the site will also explain the importance of voting and aims to encourage more citizens to register and vote.

The site’s brand new feature is proposed to launch on July 18 contingent upon the Supervisor of Election’s website, which receives a lot of the information pertaining to the upcoming primary and general elections.

The group’s speaker’s bureau is seeking for more people who are interested in speaking on voting related topics as well.

The League of Women Voters will meet later this month at the Community Bank & Trust Co. on County  466  and will feature Sumter County Supervisor of Elections Karen Krauss as the guest speaker. The meeting is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27.
