MSNBC political commentator and senior contributing writer for The Nation Ari Berman will sign copies of his new book “Give us the Ballot” at 4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble at Lake Sumter Landing.

Billed “Notable Book of 2015” by the New York Times, “Give us the Ballot” delves into American voting history in the past 50 years, mainly focusing on the 1965 Voting Rights Act and how its passage ensued an agenda to restrict voting rights.

The author brings to light that the 1965 act has not been entirely fulfilled, as he cites instances in history leading up to the present that have attempted to restrict the Voting Rights Act’s goal and shake up American democracy.

Berman has also been featured on C-Span and National Public Radio. He has been published in the New York Times and The Guardian.

The book signing will take place from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested in attending must purchase copies at the store to receive a signed book.
