A man and a woman were arrested this weekend at Lake Griffin State Park after disturbing other campers.
Fruitland Park police were called to the campsite at about 1 a.m. Saturday after other campers heard screams coming from a tent and called 911.
An officer arrived on the scene, drew his Taser and ordered the occupants of the tent to step out.
Michael Alan Jeffries, 50, appeared to have been straddling and shaking a woman identified as 42-year-old Tabitha Crosby, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. Jeffries was arrested on a battery charge and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was also charged with violating his probation on a previous charge of grand theft.
About four hours later, police returned to the campsite and arrested Crosby who had been waking up other campers and yelling that “whoever called 911” was “leaving in a pine box.” She appeared to be intoxicated and became belligerent and argumentative with police. She said she would “have their jobs” and made comments about the KKK and black police officers, according to the report. She was arrested on a charge of disorderly intoxication. She was booked at the Lake County Jail.
