President Trump sent a message to Assad

Congressman Daniel Webster
Congressman Daniel Webster

Thursday night, under the leadership of President Trump the United States sent a message to Assad, Iran, North Korea, Russia, China and the rest of the world. The years of broken promises about so-called red lines and America leading from behind have ended.

We know that Assad is a brutal dictator, a terrorist sympathizer and has had and used chemical weapons in the past.  We shouldn’t trust him one iota. He allows ISIS to live and train in his country. Our American principles dictate that we cannot turn a blind eye to a chemical weapon attack on civilians and I am thankful that President Trump has taken swift action.

We need a comprehensive strategy to tackle ISIS and ending the threat Assad is to U.S. security.  Under the leadership of Secretary McMaster, General Mattis and others I am confident President Trump and our military will have one.

On Friday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Judge Neil Gorsuch as an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.  This is a huge win for America.  Judge Gorsuch has a record of being an originalist – upholding the U.S. Constitution as it was written.  He is NOT a judge who seeks to legislate from the bench.  He is a great addition to the court and will serve our country well.

Also on Friday, after being in session for six weeks members returned to their districts.  During the last six weeks we roll-backed the largest number of burdensome rules and regulations in American history.  To date, 12 of these bills have been signed by President Trump.  We also passed legislation to bring a culture of accountability to the Veterans Administration and ensure VA employees are held to a higher standard, whistleblowers are protected from retaliation, and honest employees are benefited.
