David S. O’Dwyer

David S. O’Dwyer, 82, of The Villages, FL, passed from this life on July 22, 2017. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late David and Eleanor O’Dwyer. He is survived by two sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren.

David retired to The Villages in 2008 having moved down from Charleston, South Carolina. His fifty year working career included executive positions with IBM, AT&T and CBS. David served in the U.S. Army in Verdun, France, and retired from the military as a First Lieutenant. He loved his country and was proud to be an American.

An enthusiastic and life-long barbershop singer, David sang with thirteen different barbershop choruses and fifteen different barbershop quartets. He was a long time member of the Heart of Florida Chorus. David was an inveterate traveler having traveled extensively around the world including much of Europe, Scandinavia, Egypt, Israel, Russia, Central & South America, the Caribbean, China, Alaska, and Hawaii.

David participated in many Villages activities including the POPS Chorus, A Capella Gold, Advanced Acoustic Guitar, the Ukulele Club, and Folk Guitar. He was an avid table tennis player and competed annually in the Florida State Senior Games. He was a member of the North Lake Presbyterian Church and was active in the Cuban mission program. One of David’s favorite groups was “Tutors for Kids,” a group which provides tutors to the area public schools.

David will be interred at Florida National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the North Lake Presbyterian Church on August 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception. All are welcome.
