A 79-year-old Stonecrester driving a white Mercedes-Benz was arrested on a drunk driving charge after failing to yield to pedestrians Tuesday evening at Lake Sumter Landing.

Edward James Bogan had been driving shortly before 6 p.m. on Old Camp Road when he was pulled over by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy.

The deputy asked Bogan to participate in field sobriety exercises during a traffic stop in the parking lot of Barnes & Noble. He failed the exercises and later provided breath samples that registered .115 and .116 blood alcohol content.

He also admitted to drinking two scotches.

During a ride in a patrol car to the Sumter County Detention Center, Bogan scolded the deputy, according to the arrest report.

“I am going to spend my last years in jail,” Bogan said. “Boy, oh boy. I hope you’re proud of yourself.”

He was booked at the jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
