The son of a Villager was arrested on a drunk driving charge after he was spotted driving a golf cart without headlights on the Historic Side of The Villages.

Keith Nicholas Barnum, 39, who lives with his mother at 730 Roseapple Ave., had been operating the golf cart at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tarrson Boulevard and Truman Avenue, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He was also wearing headphones, in violation of state law.

An officer asked Barnum if he had been drinking.

“A lot,” Barnum replied.

He failed field sobriety exercises and was uncooperative when asked for a breath sample. He refused to sign an implied consent form.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $1,500 bond. The golf cart was towed from the scene.

It was Barnum’s fourth trip this year to the Lake County Jail.

Most recently, he had been arrested in August after an incident at the Circle K on the Historic Side.
