Unscrupulous handyman accused of ripping off elderly woman in Village of Silver Lake

David Carl Hall

An unscrupulous handyman has been arrested after allegedly ripping off an elderly woman in the Village of Silver Lake.

David Carl Hall, 47, was arrested Thursday at his home in Leesburg on a warrant charging him with exploitation of the elderly.

He had circulated flyers in The Villages and in November was contacted by a woman on Pompano Lane about a house-painting job. He agreed to take on the job for $950. He told the woman he needed $900 up front. She wrote a check and he cashed it the same day, according to the arrest warrant.

Hall returned to the woman’s home the next day and pressure washed it. He did not come back and would not return the woman’s phone calls. She eventually contacted the police.

Hall was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $4,000 bond.

He had been arrested last month in connection with another incident on the Historic Side of The Villages.
