Man with drug problem arrested in theft of copper wire from property near The Villages

A man with a known drug problem was arrested in the theft of copper wire from a property near The Villages.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies were called to a property on County Road 25 located between The Villages and the Lakes of Lady Lake where 30-year-old Josh Brady Chaney of Lady Lake, had loaded into his vehicle copper wire stripped from the residence. He also had automotive parts taken from a shed at the property, according to an arrest report.

The deputy making the arrest noted in his report he had previous contact with Chaney and knew he has a drug problem.

A check of Chaney’s vehicle turned up a syringe in the center console. There was also methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Chaney was taken into custody on charges of burglary, grand theft, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $22,000 bond.
