Man arrested in death of woman in crash on State Road 44 in Sumter County

A 23-year-old man was being held at the Sumter County Detention Center after a crash Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman.

Troy Kinkade of Plant City is facing charges of DUI Manslaughter, vehicular homicide, driving while license suspended involving a death and leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. He was also wanted on felony warrants from Hillsborough County.

Kinkade’s 2017 Nissan Altima had been spotted at 6 a.m. Tuesday traveling 92 miles per hour on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A trooper was pursuing Kinkade and attempted to overtake his vehicle which abruptly exited I-75 at State Road 44.  Kinkade’s vehicle struck a 2006 Toyota Camry driven by Kristi Reed of Homosassa Springs. She died at the scene of the accident.

Three passengers in Kincade’s vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center.
