Red Sox Nation will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15 at SeaBreeze Recreation Center.
The guest speaker will be Joe Morgan, a former Red Sox manager not to be confused with the Joe Morgan of Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine.
Morgan is Massachusetts through-and-through.
He was born in Walpole, played baseball at Boston College and signed his first professional baseball contract with the Boston Braves.
He was a veteran minor league manager who led the Pawtucket Red Six for nine seasons.
He was a coach on the National League East Division champion Pittsburgh Pirates.
In 1988, Morgan was named interim manager of the Boston Red Sox at the All-Star break. He had an auspicious beginning by leading the BoSox to 12 consecutive wins in his first dozen games a manager.
He managed the Red Sox to American League Eastern Division titles in 1989 and 1990.
He was let go by the Red Sox following the 1991 season.
Morgan is a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame, the Walpole High School Hockey Hall of Fame and the International League Hall of Fame.
Morgan was given the nickname “Turnpike Joe” because he drove a snow plow during the off season.
