Buffalo Crossing CNA gets off easy after allegedly stealing money from wheelchair-bound patient

Hassan Ismail Osman

A former certified nursing assistant at Buffalo Crossing Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center has been placed on probation for six months after allegedly stealing money from a wheelchair-bound patient.

Management at the facility in The Villages had suspected an ongoing theft problem, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Hassan Ismail Osman, 31, on April 2 was caught on video placing rubber gloves on his hands and removing $70 in cash from a black checkbook belonging to a 77-year-old patient at the facility. The arrest report noted that the patient cannot walk and “needs all the money she can get for her care and well-being.”

The following day, Osman was arrested on a felony charge of exploitation of the elderly, as well as a misdemeanor charge of petit theft.

Osman’s attorney was successful in getting the felony charge dismissed.

Last week in Sumter County Court, Osman pleaded no contest to the lesser charge and was placed on six months probation.

While he was out on bond in that case, Osman was arrested by Marion County sheriff’s deputies on a charge of domestic battery. In that case, he was sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for 43 days served. He also was ordered to attend a 12-week parenting class at his own expense.
