Two women in a speeding vehicle were arrested after they were found to be in possession of drugs after a traffic stop in Lady Lake.

Their vehicle was caught on radar traveling 68 miles per hour in a 50 mph zone at about 4 p.m. Monday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441.

The driver, 19-year-old Brittany Marie Evans of Ocala, told police she knew was speeding and was sorry, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

As the officer approached the car a faint odor of marijuana was detected as well as a strong scent of perfume.

The officer asked if there was marijuana in the car.

“No, we just got done smoking before we got in the car and it’s on our clothes. I sprayed stuff to cover it, that is why I am so nervous,” Evans said.

A passenger, 20-year-old Alexis Jordan Connell of Belleview, appeared to attempt to come clean.

“Let me be honest with you, this is what we have left,” Connell told the police officer as she handed him a Backwoods brand cigar package with approximately three grams of a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana.

A search of Connell’s purse turned up a marijuana grinder, Hydrocodone pills and four Alprazolam pills. She said she uses the Alprazolam pills to self-medicate, but does not have a prescription.

Evans admitted she had two hydrocodone pills in her purse, but said she was holding them “for a friend,” the arrest report said.

Both women were arrested on drug possession charges and booked at the Lake County Jail.
