Sumter County Administrator Bradley Arnold announced Tuesday night the hiring of a new public works director.
Deborah L. Snyder was introduced during the Sumter County Commission meeting in Bushnell. In her new role, Arnold said Snyder will start out handling site plan reviews, traffic impact analysis reviews, utility permit reviews and signalization projects. And she’ll be involved in some construction projects, such as County Road 673 from Interstate 75 to County Road 674, he said
Eventually, Arnold added, he’ll continue to shift work “in a phased manner” to Snyder until she ultimately assumes all of the duties of the public works director.
Prior to joining Sumter County, Snyder served as a senior transportation engineer for with VIBEngineering Inc. That company has locations in St. Petersburg, where Snyder was stationed, as well as in Horn Lake, Miss. It was founded in 2013 by traffic engineers with more than 58 years of combined experience in the transportation industry.
During her tenure with VIBE, Snyder was responsible for project management and technical engineering management duties, as well as marketing her company’s services to other consultants and private and public agencies. She was charged with building relationships with the City of Tampa, the City of St. Petersburg, Lee County, Manatee County and the Florida Department of Transportation. And she prepared requests for proposals, letters of interest, technical proposals and interviews.
Prior to that, Snyder was the office manager and senior transportation engineer with DKS Associates Inc. in Tampa, where she was charged with running the day-to-day operations of the office and building relationships with consultants and government (state and municipal) staff. She also handled budget analysis, tracking of projects, overseeing operating expenses, supervision of personnel, project management, traffic engineering assignments and marketing.
Snyder also has served as a senior supervising traffic engineer with Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. and a district materials research engineer and district traffic engineer with FDOT.
Snyder earned both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of South Florida and Cleveland State University, respectively. She holds professional registrations as a Professional Traffic Engineer and a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer. And her professional affiliations include the Transportation Professionals Certification Board (discipline director 2018), Women’s Transportation Seminar (treasurer) and Institute of Transportation Engineers.
Snyder also was involved with the Institute of Transportation Engineers Trip Generation Handbook 3rd Edition as an expert panel member, a contributing author, a reviewer and a voting committee member.
