Ocala McDonald’s manager jailed after fracas sends employee to hospital

Lindsey Renee Aery

An Ocala McDonald’s shift manager was arrested Wednesday afternoon after she got into an argument with an employee who was attempting to leave the fast-food restaurant.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to the restaurant, located at 2600 NW Hwy. 27, at about 1:30 p.m. When they arrived, the shift manager, 27-year-old Lindsey Renee Aery, said she had an argument with the employee about her job performance and “being confrontational” toward her. She said the argument turned physical when the employee attempted to leave the store, claiming that the woman struck her in the face, a sheriff’s office report states.

The employee told a sheriff’s sergeant that Aery wouldn’t allow her to take her break, even though the manager had left the restaurant earlier for about an hour. She claimed that Aery initiated the argument and physical altercation. And she said she was struck in the face, which caused her glasses to strike her eye, the report says, adding that she then requested medical treatment and was transported by paramedics to Florida Hospital Ocala.

Deputies also spoke with the restaurant’s acting general manager, who showed them video surveillance footage of the incident. Deputies noted that Aery appeared to “pursue after” the employee while throwing her hands in the air.

Aery also could be seen throwing an unknown object at the employee, which later was determined to be a piece of paper. The employee then turns toward Aery and she “attempted to strike the victim with her right hand,” the report says, adding that deputies weren’t sure if she actually hit the woman.

An eyewitness told deputies that Aery was the “primary aggressor.” She said she watched Aery throw a piece of paper at the employee and “attempt to strike her,” but she was unsure if she actually hit her, the report says.

Another eye witness told the same account of the incident, adding that she believed Aery “swung on the victim first.”

Aery, who lives at 21931 SW 70th Street in Morriston, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. She was charged with battery and released late Wednesday night on $1,000 bond.
