Stepson arrested on murder charge after discovery of human remains in Sumter County

A stepson has been arrested after the discovery of human remains in Sumter County.

Benito Peralta Farrar, 24, of Bushnell, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of second degree murder. He was being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.

The remains have been determined to be Claudio Carvajal Hernandez, who was reported missing June 21.

The condition of Carvajal Hernandez’ remains required extensive laboratory testing in order to make a positive DNA match.

A warrant was issued Tuesday for Farrar’s arrest.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek information in the case.
