Ocala Breeders’ Sales event to feature 10-card live horse racing

There will be live horse racing Tuesday at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales.

The sales group will offer a 10-race card with pari-mutuel wagering on eight of the events.

The first six races will be for quarter horses at distances from 220-440 yards. Post time for the first race is scheduled for noon.

Lookin to Strike, the 3-year-old son of Lookin At Lucky, won the Oct. 13 Ontario Derby and will be in Tuesday’s OBS Sprint Stakes race.

The seventh race is a six-furlong maiden race for thoroughbreds and the eighth race is a starter allowance for thoroughbreds, also at six furlongs.

The first eight races offer pari-mutuel wagering. Rounding out the card will be two non-wagering events.

“It’s always great to have live racing at OBS,” said OBS’s Jay Friedman. “We are going to have eight betting races and the two non-betting races are going to have great fields, including graded-stakes horses.”

The ninth race is the $125,000 OBS Filly and Mare Sprint at six furlongs. The race is for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.

Rich Mommy, a graded-stakes winner, heads the field of eight runners in the feature race. The 4-year-old daughter of Algorithms has earned $244,185.

The race is for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up who through the sales ring at OBS.

Rich Mommy, winner of the 2017 Sugar Swirl Stakes at Gulfstream Park, will compete in Tuesday’s $125,000 OBS Filly and Mare Sprint Stakes at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales event.

The final race is the $125,000 OBS Sprint Stakes for 3-year-olds and up who also have gone through the sales ring at OBS.

Top riders, including Tyler Gaffalione, Javier Castellano, Ronnie Allen, Manoel Cruz and Paco Lopez, will be on hand. Top trainer Mark Casse will be represented in the races.

OBS is located just across from the Ocala Municipal Airport at 1701 SW 60th Ave. The public is invited, but you may want to bring your own folding chairs, as seating is limited.
