Villager continues her domination of Senior Games pickleball competitions

Thursday marked the sixth day of the nine-day 2018 Florida Senior Games competitions.

Villager Deb Harrison won her eighth overall women’s singles title in pickleball since 2005 in the 2018 Florida Senior Games.

It also was the first day of four that will involve pickleball competitions. All told, 343 athletes are scheduled to participate in the popular sport.

Deb Harrison, of The Villages, won her eighth overall women’s singles title since 2005 while participating in the 70-74 age group. On Monday and Tuesday, Harrison won table tennis medals and will participate in women’s and mixed doubles pickleball competition.

Villagers Pauline Stropp and Donald Schadt lost in the final match of the 60-64 age group of tennis mixed doubles. They were defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Jeff and Ann Winkler of St. Petersburg.

At the end of the day, several top athletes were feted, including 2017 Athlete of the Year Carol Teel, a bowler from The Villages.
