A  Community Development District 2 supervisor claims that some gate attendants in The Villages are falling short of their duties.

CDD 2 Supervisor Bill Schikora said the topic was the subject of a recent question-and-answer session he hosted. Schikora holds the sessions to get feedback from residents.

Schikora said during Friday’s board of supervisors meeting that some gate attendants are not fulfilling their responsibility to “stand and greet” those traveling through the gates. He hastened to add that the “vast majority” do a good job.

“I would hope to see a more consistent performance of their duties,” Schikora said.

He added that the few not living up to their responsibilities drag down the reputation and image of those attendants who fulfill their role.

Schikora said he was surprised to see District Manager Richard Baier greet him at a gate on a recent night.

Baier said he and Community Watch Chief Nehemiah Wolfe have been visiting gates as part of a “walk in their shoes” effort to identify with the front-line duties performed by District employees. Baier also said Community Watch staffers, including gate attendants, would be undergoing some formalized training in January.

“They are the first-line ambassadors for the community,” Schikora said.
