Woman busted with weed after K-9 alerts on vehicle in traffic stop at service station

Tara Hawotte

A woman found to be in possession of marijuana was arrested after a K-9 alerted on her vehicle during a traffic stop at a service station.

Tara Leeann Hawotte, 33, of Wildwood, had been driving a red SUV with an expired registration at 10:33 p.m. Thursday when she was pulled over at the Circle K at 1001 S. Main St., according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. During the traffic stop, a K-9 alerted on the vehicle, indicating the likely presence of drugs. Hawotte “spontaneously uttered I have weed in the car,” the arrest report said. She had 2.9 grams of marijuana in her purse.

She was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Hawotte was arrested earlier this year after she allegedly keyed another woman’s car.
