Orlando bowler claims victory at Senior Shoot Out in The Villages

Bill Keenan

There was plenty of top-notch bowling in The Villages this past weekend.

On Saturday at Fiesta Bowl, Orlando’s Bill Keenan took his first Senior Shoot Out championship since November 2016 when he defeated three residents of The Villages in the four-person final game. Jerry Teel won the Seventh Annual Villages Open Sunday at Spanish Springs Lanes.

Keenan shot a 219 game to defeat Villagers Chuck Kalogeropolous (213), Steve Ferraro (200) and Chuck Richardson.

There were 58 bowlers entered in the event, including 15 Super Seniors. Seven of the Super Seniors made the natural cut of 582. Two were added to the next round per rules.

Keenan struck on his final four deliveries to nail down the championship.

Kalogeropolous opened in the first frame and had to struggle the rest of the way. He struck in the fifth through ninth frames to contend for the championship.

Ferraro was hurt by splits in the fourth and seventh frames and Richardson ran into splits in the sixth and seventh frames after opening in the third frame.

In The Villages Open, Teel defeated Rick Pittman 279-269 to win a $500 check in the final game.

Bob Geoffroy (205) took home $250 by defeating Denny Farris (183) in the third-place consolation game.

Teel got into the final game by defeating Farris 266-239 and Pittman defeated Geoffroy 238-237 to make the final game.

A total of 77 bowlers began the tournament.
