Winners announced in Visual Arts Association’s Winter La Galleria Fine Arts Show

Winners have been announced in the Visual Arts Association’s Winter La Galleria Fine Arts Show 2019. The artwork will hang until March 9 at La Hacienda Recreation Center.

The judge of the show was Lew Clayton, an award-winning artist from Umatilla, and he was impressed with the overall presentation and quality of the show.

“Your group has some very talented artists,” he said.

Here are the winners with the judge’s comments:

FINE ART AWARDS

First Place – Mark Richardson DUKE GUARDING JOHN’S PLACE A handsome rendering of man’s best friend done in colored pencil.

“Duke Guarding John’s Place” by Mark Richardson.

Second Place – Doris Glapion FAMILY CONNECTIONS  An amazing study of spheres and their relation to each other. Very thought provoking.

Third Place – Diana Lawlor LA BEE EN ROSE A lovely watercolor collage creating a circular format for a family of bees.

AWARD OF MERIT

LISA WOODWARD DAY’S END AT THE LAKE This acrylic is very atmospheric in the handling of the sky and water. The early evening sky is captured in soft warm hues. The effect is striking.

HONORABLE MENTION

BARB JUSTICE DAD’S CHAIR & QUILT, MINE  This piece speaks to the dog lover in all of us. It’s rendered beautifully in colored pencil. You have to see the work and the attention to detail in quilt and chair.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

First Place – EILEEN SKLON DANCE OF THE NIGELLA On first glance this beautiful work looks like a painting. The use of the camera and digital mastering create a breath-taking piece that appears to move in the breeze. The artist grew the Nigella with the expressed purpose of photographing it.

RALPH BISCHOFF SWANS From a photo taken on a river cruise emerges a pair of swans, which is a beautiful contrast of black and white, although it’s a colored photo.
