Community Development District 2 supervisor mourned here in The Villages

John Blum

A longtime Community Development District 2 supervisor is being mourned here in The Villages.

John Blum, 80, of the Village of Santo Domingo, who died on Dec. 30, served for several years as chairman of the CDD 2 Board of Supervisors. He was replaced as chairman earlier this year by fellow Supervisor Bryan Lifsey. Blum’s current CDD term is not due to expire until 2022. The CDD 2 board is scheduled to meet Friday morning and likely will address the task of filling this unexpected vacancy.

“I served as vice chairman under John for the past four years. He was a tremendous leader and always led by example. His experience on District 2’s Board made him an invaluable resource when any issue arose. I am honored to have known and worked for and with him,” Lifsey said.

An Ohio native who had deep roots in politics, Blum had fondly recalled working on political campaigns of the late John Glenn, the first American to orbit the planet and who later served in the U.S. Senate. Blum also served as central committeeman of the Democratic Executive Committee for Sumter County.

Blum was an avid golfer and in 2017 scored his seventh hole-in-one while golfing at Briarwood Executive Golf Course with the Old Friends club, of which Blum served as treasurer.
