Villager Bob Bassett rang in his 90th birthday with 100 friends and family members at the Mulberry Grove Recreation Center Saturday evening.
The party included a catered dinner and cake, Music by Sparky’s Strummers, and an original song by Bob’s son, Steve Bassett, of Salt Lake City Utah. A special parody also was written and performed to the tune of “Got along without you before I met you,” by Carol Baker.
As residents of the Village of Springdale for the past two and a half years, Bob and his wife, Jan, immediately became as involved in the community as they were in their small community in Elk Rapids, Michigan.
Bob was widowed twice before he married Jan, who was also a widow. Their blended family now consists of eight children and spouses, more than 20 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren who have entered the family over the years.
“There are no stepkids. All are our kids, including spouses and their kids when they enter into the family,” said Bob of his family.
