A Villager was arrested early Wednesday morning after accidentally tripping the alarm system in her garage.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies responded at 1:02 a.m. to the home at 2883 Resmondo Road in the Clifford Villas, located directly across from the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at Sarasota Plaza.

When deputies arrived, they were told by 53-year-old Efie Foulidis Mercer that she had accidentally set off the alarm in her garage. A deputy detected the odor of marijuana coming from the home.

He asked if she had been smoking marijuana.

“Yes, do you want it?” she asked.

Mercer then led the deputy into her kitchen and handed him a clear plastic bag containing marijuana. The deputy also found that she had been using a soda can as a smoking device.

She was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,000 bond.
