Wildwood police nab DUI suspect who allegedly fled scene of crash

Brent Robert Roy Jr.

Wildwood police nabbed a drunk driving suspect who allegedly fled the scene of a crash.

The person whose vehicle had been struck contacted law enforcement early Thursday morning and said a white Jeep Compass involved in the crash was traveling on State Road 44 toward Interstate 75. A Wildwood police officer located the vehicle and noted that its left front bumper was scraping the ground. The Jeep Compass kept traveling for two miles with the pursuing police car’s lights and sirens activated.

After the Jeep Compass finally pulled over, front-end damage and a fresh red paint transfer were discovered by the police officer. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Brent Robert Roy Jr. of Leesburg. The police officer suspected Roy had been drinking, but he initially refused to participate in field sobriety exercises. When he was being processed at the Sumter County Detention Center, Roy consented to a blood draw by a jail nurse.

Roy was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, hit and run, and fleeing an officer. He was booked at the jail and released after posting $3,250 bond.
