79-year-old pedestrian struck by car at Spanish Springs Town Square

A 79-year-old pedestrian was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital after he was struck by a car at Spanish Springs Town Square.

Francis Thomas Lafferty of Lady Lake was crossing Main Street near Gator’s Dockside restaurant at 11:51 a.m. Monday when he was struck by a silver 2015 Honda Civic driven by 68-year-old Vivian Fortier of the Village of Lynnhaven, according to an accident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

Lafferty was knocked to the ground and complained of hip pain.

Fortier said she had been blinded by the glare of the sun.

The report noted that Lafferty was not in a crosswalk.
