A suspect in an attempted theft at a Lady Lake car wash has already been convicted in a string of similar crimes.
John Edward Dyson Jr., 33, of Summerfield, was booked this past Wednesday at the Lake County Jail. He was recently released from the Marion County Jail after serving one month and 28 days following a string of similar thefts. His heists included the theft of $500 in quarters from Quality Car Wash in Summerfield, causing $3,000 in damage at the Splash and Dash car wash in Ocala and inflicting damage to equipment at Baseline Car Wash in Ocala, after attempting to use a flat-head screwdriver to pry it open. He was caught on video surveillance in each of the incidents. He was also placed on six months probation.
Dyson was also captured on surveillance video this past May at the Super Wash on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake. He is suspected of attempting to drill open the vacuum cleaner at the car wash in an attempt to remove the coins. Video surveillance showed a gold Chevy Suburban with a license plate which turned out to be stolen from a trailer in Belleview.
Lady Lake police began working with Marion County sheriff’s deputies, leading to Dyson’s ultimate apprehension.
He remains free on $500 bond.
