To the Editor:
The government is too big to succeed. It employees too many people and costs too much money to operate. Every dollar they spend belongs to us. There are over 90 taxes with as least six taxes on phones alone. Everyone is paying some kind of tax. The costs of government incompetence and inefficiencies border on criminal acts. For example, over 5 billion dollars wasted on a bullet train to nowhere in California. They are spending our money like drunken sailors.
It’s put us 22 trillion dollars in federal debt plus huge unfunded debts in state and local government pensions. We, the taxpayers, employ about 22 million workers. (Federal, state, local, contractors and politicians.) That’s about 14 percent of the total U.S. workforce.
Most of these employees cannot be fired because politicians made sweetheart deals with them; trading our money for the government employees vote. Many politicians want to grab more of our money with new taxes. This means hiring more people that can’t be fired and creating more incompetence and inefficiencies. It’s unsustainable!
What are they going to tax next, rain water? (New Jersey: over 500 water run off districts established) Let’s tax drinking water! (California: severe droughts, yet the largest shipper of bottled water) How about cow manure? (Congress: bull manure will be exempt. Congress considers B.S. a protected species.)
I recently read that if pro is the opposite of con; then congress is the opposite of progress. Sounds right! We need fewer taxes, less spending, smaller government, and enforceable accountability. Term limits would help break the pattern. It’s our money the bureaucrats and politicians are spending. Speak up!
