Villager’s son recently released from jail shows up demanding laundry money

Douglas Martin Houck Jr.

Police were called to a home in The Villages after a woman’s son showed up demanding laundry money.

Douglas Martin Houck Jr., 31, had been arrested Jan. 20 after he showed up at his mother’s door in the Vista Sonoma Villas in Spanish Springs and began screaming for money. He was charged with violating a court order to stay away from his mother’s home and he was booked at the Lake County Jail.

Houck on Feb. 14 entered a plea of no contest in the case in Lake County Court. He was placed on probation for one year and reminded the court order to stay away from his mother was still in place. He was released from jail, where he had been since his January arrest, after appearing in court.

The next day, he returned to his mother’s home in The Villages in defiance of the court order. He demanded a cell phone and money, prompting his 56-year-old mother to call 911, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

When an officer arrived on the scene, Houck told him he had recently been released from jail and didn’t have any money to do his laundry.

The officer told Houck to stay away from his mother’s home and he left the scene. There was not an arrest.
