Deadline nearing for Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarship applicants

The deadline for applications for the Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarship Program is right around the corner. And it’s imperative that those who are interested in applying have their packets completed and ready to go very soon.

The deadline to apply for the scholarships – first prize is $12,000 – is Saturday, March 9. Entries postmarked after that date won’t be considered.

The Harold Schwartz Music Scholarship Program is open to graduating seniors who will major or minor in music in college next year. Last year, a total of more than $50,000 was awarded to eight talented music students.

Materials needed to apply for the scholarships can be found at operaclubofthevillages.com. Qualified applicants will be invited to audition before the scholarship judges at the Laurel Manor Recreation Center on Saturday, April 6.

The Opera Club of The Villages established the Harold S. Schwartz Music Scholarship Program in 1997 to honor the founder of The Villages and to commemorate his lifelong love of music. It is a goal of the Scholarship Program to encourage and support students of music in developing their talent and achieving their educational goals, which will, in turn, enrich many lives. Since its inception, more than $378,000 in scholarships has been awarded to students in Sumter, Lake and Marion counties.
