A Fruitland Park man was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash near Sumterville.
Arean James Joyner, 20, was killed around 2:30 a.m. when he lost control of his 2004 Buick LeSabre while traveling on U.S. 301 near NE 13th Avenue between Sumterville and Coleman. His sedan left the roadway onto the west shoulder and then traveled back across all traffic lanes before slamming into a tree and overturning, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
Joyner was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and Joyner was wearing his seatbelt, the FHP report says.
Joyner, who went by A.J., was from Leesburg and had attended both Leesburg and Tavares high schools. He worked as a plumber’s helper at Ross Plumbing in Leesburg for the past 19 months and was remembered by his colleagues in a Facebook post on Monday morning.
“Our thoughts are with his mother, his siblings and his grandparents, Raleigh Joe and Rita Goddard, whom we have been privileged to call friends for many years,” the post reads. “May God bless and keep you in this time and at all times.”
