Paula Helm

A Villager was arrested after she was left stranded by her boyfriend at Lake Sumter Landing.

Paula Kay Helm, 54, who lives at 537 St. Andrews Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages, at 4:17 p.m. Thursday was at Barnes & Noble when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy responded to a call for a citizen assist. Helm told the deputy she needed a ride to her residence after her boyfriend left her stranded.

She provided proof of her identity and the deputy wanted to ensure she was not carrying a weapon. When Helm handed over her purse, she admitted there was marijuana inside. The deputy found two clear plastic bags containing marijuana, one weighed 4.35 grams and the other weighed 4.38 grams, according to the arrest report.

The Evansville, Ind. native was arrested on a charge of marijuana possession and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
