75-year-old Stonecrester victim of fraud after sharing bank account information

A 75-year-old Stonecrest woman called a Marion County sheriff’s deputy for help earlier this week after realizing she’d been the victim of a telephone scam.

The woman on Monday told the deputy that she had received a phone call last week and was asked to give the caller her bank account information. The woman apparently was to receive money from the caller, so she complied with his requests, a sheriff’s office report states.

A few days later, the woman said she was contacted by her bank and told there has been suspicious transactions linked to her account. Another financial institution also apparently contacted her as well, but the amount of money taken from her accounts was redacted from the report.
